What to expect

No surprises, either end.

Before

A physical exam confirms your pet is healthy enough for surgery. We recommend pre-anesthetic blood work on top of it.

During

Continuous monitoring of heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, temperature and rhythm — and text, email or phone updates to you from your own technician.

After

Recovery in a quieter space under close observation, with a pain plan already in place and laser therapy on most soft tissue procedures.

We offer a full range of soft tissue surgeries, from routine spays and neuters to more advanced procedures. South Town is committed to state of the art surgical technique alongside compassionate care for our surgical patients.

Is anesthesia safe?

South Town Animal Hospital uses strict anesthetic safety measures. Our surgical suite is equipped with state of the art surgical and anesthetic-monitoring equipment to ensure continuous monitoring of heart rate, respiratory rate, capillary refill time, blood pressure, IV fluid level, temperature, and heart rhythm.

All surgical procedures begin with a physical examination by the veterinarian to assess that your pet is healthy enough for surgery. We also recommend pre-anesthetic blood work to further ensure that your pet is healthy enough to tolerate anesthesia.

Following surgery, patients are moved to a more comfortable environment to be closely monitored while they recover. This close observation helps with the timely administration of any necessary medications to keep our patients comfortable.

Are you nervous about leaving your pet all day?

Get medical updates directly from your veterinary technician any time during the day of your pet’s surgical procedure. We offer text, email or phone call updates.

In addition, your pet’s emotional comfort will be assessed. Any pet showing signs of fear or anxiety will receive medication, and/or calming pheromones, to ensure they are comfortable during their hospital stay.

Will my pet be in pain?

South Town Animal Hospital takes pain management very seriously. We have a variety of pain medications that will fit the individual needs of each patient. You can be assured that your pet will be kept as comfortable as possible before, during, and after any surgical procedure.

During most soft tissue surgical procedures, laser therapy is used to help promote faster and better healing by stimulating cell regeneration, increasing blood circulation and decreasing inflammation. This will help your pet feel better sooner.
