South Town.

Who we are

The same faces,visit after visit.

Sixteen people work at South Town, and most of them have been here a very long time — our lead surgical technician started in 2007. Three are veterinarians. The other thirteen are the reason the place runs.

The practice

We truly understand the unique role pets play in our lives.

Our team provides the compassionate care that you expect for your special family members. Best practices in veterinary medicine are constantly changing, and our goal is to guide you in making educated decisions about the medical treatment and well-being of your dog or cat.

That means a plan built around how your animal actually lives — a lapdog and a hunting dog are not the same patient, and an indoor cat is not an outdoor one. It also means telling you what something costs before we do it, and staying inside that number.

We are the proud sister practice of Cobb & Co. Veterinary Clinic in Elgin.

Ways we care

The part you don’t see.

We have professional and personal standards for how we care for your pet. Most of it happens behind the scenes. This is what it looks like.

We change our needles after each poke
With each use a needle gets duller, and more painful. When we draw a vaccine from a vial we change the needle after. It costs the clinic. It’s more comfortable for your pet.
We’re often on the floor
Your pets are in an unfamiliar environment and are often scared. We get down on the floor with them.
We talk to your pet and comfort them
We hold them and hug them. A pet coming out of anesthesia is often frightened, so a doctor or technician stays with them while they wake up.
We use low-stress handling
We follow Dr. Sophia Yin’s handling guide, which revolutionized the veterinary industry with low-stress technique.
We go the extra mile
Often we do things that aren’t required of us — cleaning a face with discharge, combing out matted fur, cleaning ears.
Extra phone time
A lot of the doctors’ and staff’s time is on the phone: reassuring an owner about a sick pet, finding the best price with a pharmacy, consulting a specialist about treatment options.
Our team cares
They care about your pet, about you, and about each other — and it shows.
We are with you from start to finish
From pediatric to geriatric care. We listen to your worries and share your triumphs, and when it is time to say goodbye we will be there sharing your pain.

We do these things because we truly care. The love that we have for animals and our profession is a lifelong passion for many of us.

The roster

The whole crew.

Three veterinarians and thirteen people beside them. Between them: a Great Dane named Boa, a pastry arts degree, a cockatiel, two guinea pigs, and a dog named Tater Tot.
